The NSWLCA holds multiple ANKC trials each year, generally holding one per month from April-September. In order for your dog to compete, you must be a financial member of a state controlling body (in NSW, this is Dogs NSW) and your dog must be a sighthound over the age of 15 months and registered with the ANKC. If you haven't entered lure coursing before, please note that all breeds first enter the Junior Courser (JC) class.
In our experience, people often underestimate the level of physical exertion required from the dog while lure coursing. The course length is from 600 to 1000 metres, which the dog will be required to complete twice on the trial day to qualify. For this reason, the NSWLCA recommends that only fit, well muscled and in-condition dogs enter ANKC trials.
The Trials (Sanctioned Event) will be open to the following ANKC Main & Limit Register breeds: Afghan Hound, Azawakh, Borzoi, Cirneco dell'Etna, Deerhound, Greyhound, Ibizan Hound, Irish Wolfhound, Italian Greyhound, Pharaoh Hound, Saluki, Sloughi , Whippet , Basenji and Rhodesian Ridgeback.
The easiest method of entering NSWLCA trials is online at Show Manager.
Development Days
The NSWLCA usually holds several sighthound Development Days throughout the year, in conjunction with Trials. These days are normally geared towards new coursers, dogs who may need some more encouragement to course a lure or puppies who are not old enough to attempt a full course.
The club occasionally holds workshops with an international expert on the sport. More details and registration information for our next workshop will be communicated here once it becomes available.
